The development vision
The interview discussed the need for accessible communication tools and research into non-invasive wearable brain-computer interfaces. Adapting access methods to a person’s changing needs remains a development objective, not a guarantee of lifelong suitability or recovery of natural speech.
What MindClick is being developed to do
The current programme explores trained control signals that make selections in communication software. A user constructs a message from letters, words or symbols. MindClick does not read free-form thoughts or decode complete intended sentences directly from EEG. Voice cloning is a separate software function and is not restoration of natural speech through brain decoding.
Our staged approach evaluates a deliberate facial activation followed by trained movement-related EEG selections. It requires a usable residual facial signal and an individually established EEG pattern. Reliability and usability must be assessed for the relevant configuration and population.
Regulatory and availability correction
The earlier suggestion that a product can automatically be offered as non-medical while awaiting medical-device status was too broad. Intended purpose, promotional claims and actual supply arrangements determine the applicable requirements. “Research Use Only” is not a general exemption for routine patient use.
The correct classification term is “Class I”, not “type 1”. The classification of the actual offering must be justified. Ordinary Class I conformity generally involves the manufacturer’s declaration and CE marking rather than waiting for a regulator to grant a certificate. The earlier 2024–2025 availability forecasts should not be relied on.
