Thank you to everyone who met MindSpeaker at the REVA Fair at Flanders Expo on 7–9 December 2023. Conversations with visitors, families and professionals helped us understand different communication needs and priorities.
We presented earlier communication-software concepts, message-building features and physical access buttons. We also discussed voice personalisation and our research roadmap for wearable EEG access.
A clarification of that roadmap
The earlier version of this article described an ambition to translate intended speech into a person’s own voice. That is not a demonstrated capability or an available feature of the current MindClick platform. Our present work focuses on recognising trained control signals to make selections in a communication interface. The user constructs the message; the system does not read free-form thoughts.
Voice personalisation is a separate process from EEG signal detection and requires appropriate permission and arrangements. A recorded voice does not establish that a person can use the EEG controller.
We remain grateful for the feedback shared at REVA and welcome further conversations about prototype demonstrations and research collaboration.
